What is ECU remapping?

Do you dyno the car? Why don't you do dyno runs any more?

Until 2024 every map we sold was developed on our in-house dyno — so this isn't a corner we've cut, it's a step technology retired. Ten years ago ECUs gave little or no feedback, so a dyno was the only way to measure a map. Modern ECUs report their own torque output live, which means we develop and verify every map against the engine's real data, logged on real roads. A dyno cell is actually a worse test: the car runs hot in a closed room with limited simulated airflow, so figures read low and the runs are harsh on the car. Dropping the before-and-after dyno hours is exactly why our tested maps cost around £200 less than they used to. If you'd still like a printed graph for your own records, any local rolling road can run one — you'd be paying for the proof, not the performance.

Will remapping affect my warranty?

This depends on your manufacturer and dealer. Some manufacturers are more strict than others. However, a remap can be detected by dealer diagnostics in some cases. Will I need to use higher octane fuel?

For most Stage 1 remaps on petrol engines, we recommend using at least 95 RON (regular unleaded). Some more aggressive tunes may benefit from 97-99 RON fuel. For diesel engines, standard UK diesel is perfectly fine. We'll advise you on the specific requirements for your tune.
